Business phone systems in Newcastle, Maitland and the Hunter

SJH Communications supplies, installs and supports business phone systems from our offices in Maitland and Newcastle (Wickham). For most offices of 5–30 seats the choice is a 3CX system or a hosted VoIP service on your existing NBN connection. We quote both against your current phone bill, install on site with our own technicians, and answer the support line 24 hours a day for business customers.

3CX or hosted VoIP: which suits a Newcastle business?

Whether you call it a telephone system, a PBX or a VoIP phone system, the choice for a Newcastle or Maitland office comes down to two options. Both run over your internet connection, both put desk handsets, softphones and mobiles on the same numbers, and both cost less than the copper lines the NBN switch-off has already removed. The difference is where the system lives. A 3CX system is licensed to you and runs on site or in the cloud; it suits offices that want call queues, reporting, CRM integration and control over their own setup — we are a 3CX Silver partner and deploy it as 3CX business phone systems. Hosted VoIP is a monthly service per seat with nothing to maintain; it suits smaller teams and businesses that want one fixed monthly cost — see our business VoIP solutions. We recommend one after seeing your bill and how your calls actually flow, not before.

Phone system installation in Newcastle, Maitland and the Hunter

Installation is done on site by our own technicians. A typical install runs like this: a site visit to check the NBN service, cabling and power at every desk; data cabling and patching where it is missing; handsets configured before the visit so the changeover takes a morning, not a week; your numbers ported from your current carrier so nothing changes for your customers; and staff shown the system on the day. We give you an installation date with the quote. If the internet is not up to carrying calls, we say so first — a business NBN service or 4G/5G failover is often part of the job.

What a business phone system costs

Hosted VoIP is priced per seat per month. A 3CX system is a licence plus handsets, with a lower ongoing cost once it is paid for. Either way we quote against your current bill, line by line, so you can see what changes and what you stop paying for. The quote and the site visit are free.

Handsets, softphones and mobile apps on one system

We supply Yealink desk handsets, cordless DECT handsets for warehouses and workshops, and headsets for anyone on the phone all day — see handsets and accessories. The 3CX apps for iPhone and Android, and the desktop and web softphones, put the office extension on staff mobiles and laptops, so a technician in the ute or a receptionist working from home answers the same number as the front desk. Existing SIP handsets can often be reused; bring the model numbers to the quote.

Business phone systems Newcastle, Maitland and Hunter Valley — where we install

Our technicians work from Maitland and Newcastle (Wickham) and install on site across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Cessnock, Port Stephens and Singleton. A site visit is a drive, not a dispatch from Sydney, and the team that installs your system is the team that maintains it. Central Coast businesses — Gosford, Wyong, Tuggerah, Erina and The Entrance — are covered on our business phone systems Central Coast page.

Support after the install

Faults are diagnosed remotely first — most 3CX and SIP problems are fixed without a visit — and when a technician is needed we dispatch from Maitland or Newcastle (Wickham). The support line is answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week for business customers. Adds, moves and changes — a new starter, a renamed queue, a changed greeting — are done remotely. If you want a fixed monthly cost for all of it, ask about our maintenance and support agreements; if the fault is in the line, the socket or the cabling, our NBN and phone technicians fix that too.

Common questions

Can we keep our existing phone numbers?

Yes. We manage the number porting with your current carrier as part of the install, and your published numbers do not change.

What happens to the phones if the NBN drops out?

Your numbers keep working. With 3CX and hosted VoIP the numbers live in the network, not in the wall: calls divert to mobiles or the 3CX app on mobile data, and a 4G/5G failover service keeps the whole office online through an NBN outage.

How long does a phone system installation take?

It depends on three things — handsets, number porting and whether a new NBN service is needed — so we give you a date with the quote. The changeover itself is usually a morning.
